The following are the Eight main events which the public will be able to attend free of charge:
- Garifuna Village – A Kalinago/Garifuna Villagewill be re-created on the grounds of the Carnegie Building (also known as the Old Public Library) and Heritage Square. The Village, which will be created in traditional style using indigenous materials, will feature cultural performances as well as cultural and educational products for display and sale.
- International Garifuna Music Show – We intend to showcase exciting Garifuna dance and music traditions through performances by international Garifuna Artistes from Belize and the USA .
- 2nd International Garifuna Conference – This is a Follow –up to the First International Garifuna Conference held in March 2012. During this Conference Academic Papers will be presented by Scholars and practitioners from various countries on research related to issues affecting the Garifuna Heritage and Culture and the theme of the Summit. The Conference will commence on March 11th and end on March 13th.
- National Schools Garifuna Folk Festival – Students from Primary and Secondary schools will come together at a cultural rally on Thursday, March 12th, 2015 to present items based on various aspects of the Kalinago & Garifuna Culture;
- Workshops – Eight (8) one-day workshops on topics related to Kalinago and Garifuna cultural traditions (Garifuna music, Garifuna spirituality, Garifuna History, Garifuna food, Garifuna Educational Curriculum, Medicinal Plants, Garifuna Language & Theatre Arts for Heritage in Action) will be facilitated by resource persons locally and from Overseas.
- Films – Four(4) Films will be shown – Two Garifuna documentaries which have recently been released- “Yurumein” & “Garifuna in Peril” in addition to the films “Slave Routes: A Global Vision,” & “Scattered Africa: Faces and Voices of the African Diaspora” based on Slavery and the Slave Trade will be screened for secondary school students;
- Exhibition – An Exhibition of a Kalinago Village will be mounted by the archaeologists from the University of Leiden, Netherlands who were involved in the excavation of the Argyle site;
- International Garifuna Cultural Extravaganza – On National Heroes Day- A cultural event showcasing local and international performances will take place at Heritage Square following the Traditional Wreath Laying Ceremony at Dorsetshire Hill.
