As part of the Independence celebrations of St, Vincent and the Grenadines The Garifuna Heritage Foundation’s (TGHF) programme of activities will include a GATHERING of groups from all the Traditional Garifuna Communities within St.Vincent and the Grenadines. In conjunction with the Rose Hall Cultural Development Organization we will be conducting this community event on October 20th 2012 under the theme “Strengthening the Garifuna Heritage and Culture through Business Development”
The Garifuna Heritage Foundation (TGHF) is a registered, non-profit organization geared towards the identification and promotion of the Garifuna Culture and Heritage in St.Vincent and the Grenadines. In recent times we have been playing a pivotal role in bringing to the forefront of the national debate on cultural matters, this aspect of our National Heritage.
Seven community groups from the Windward and Leeward side of the island comprising approximately two hundred and fifty (250) persons will meet at the Rose Hall Government School to share knowledge about the Garifuna Culture and to discuss ideas and formulate strategies for the promotion of the Garifuna Culture and Heritage.
From this Gathering TGHF continues to forge a collaborative movement that will, over time, raise the awareness and the consciousness of Vincentians on matters pertaining to the Garifuna heritage, and actively pursue the goals of recapturing, reclaiming, recording and documenting as much of this indigenous culture and history that is generally thought to be lost to the people of St.Vincent and the Grenadines. The Gathering will also explore ways of turning some of these Traditional practices into sustainable, economic activity.
