Volunteers needed for TGHF International Garifuna Conference

This country will be a buzz with  international, regional and local experts of the Garifuna culture at the International Garifuna Conference, Art and Cultural Exhibition, Film Series and Garifuna Marketplace, organized by the Garifuna Heritage Foundation  which will be held at the Peace Memorial Hall from March 10-12th, 2012.

Delegates will be coming from Guatemala, Belize, Honduras , Nicaragua, the USA, Canada, Venezuela, Barbados  and Trinidad and Tobago where they will be engaged in three days of intense working sessions and will hear from renowned Garifuna Scholar Dr Joseph Palacio.

President of TGHF David “Darkie” Williams said that the busy event will require all hands on deck to ensure that the activities will be a success.

Williams explained that TGHF is seeking volunteers to serve as assistants, interpreters and conference secretariat staff  among other duties. The TGHF President stated that the Foundation is seeking persons who have completed Secondary school with at least  CXC passes in English and Math.

Williams noted that although Volunteers will not be paid a stipend ,  this would be an opportunity for persons who were unemployed to occupy their time, gain valuable experience and network with persons not only from a local and regional perspective but also persons with international experience.  Volunteers who serve satisfactorily will be given a Certificate of Merit and will be able to participate in future Programmes of the International Garifuna Research Centre.

He expounded that the ideal volunteer should be over 18-years, responsible and willing to work from the Arrival of the Delegates on March 9th to their Departure on March 15th.
