VISIT OF UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR IN CULTURAL RIGHTS TO SVG – NOV 5 – 9th, 2012
The United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, Ms. Farida Shaheed, will visit Saint Vincent and the Grenadines from 5 to 9 November 2012, at the invitation of the Government.
The purpose of Ms. Shaheed’s mission is to understand, in the spirit of co-operation and dialogue, how Saint Vincent and the Grenadines endeavor to implement cultural rights. Ms. Shaheed intends to identify good practices in, and possible obstacles to, the promotion and protection of cultural rights in the country.
During her visit, Ms. Shaheed will meet with government officials, public institutions relevant for her mission, academics and research institutes in the field of cultural policies, cultural heritage and cultural rights, representatives of minorities and indigenous peoples, as well as civil society organizations.
The Special Rapporteur will learn about cultural rights and cultural policies issues in SVG . She will meet with officials, institutions, organizations and individuals. She will also visit places and projects (such as schools, arts or sports clubs, cultural centers, and also remote neighbourhoods or communities etc.) of interest. The mission offers the Government, as well as other stakeholders, an opportunity to share their experience regarding interesting projects / initiatives they are supporting and to discuss existing challenges.
